NIKOS at a parade: floats and spectators along the route

Rent a Mobile PA System for Parades

reliable flexible everyday-ready
Challenge

Crowd management & procession monitoring

No possibility for wired announcements across the floats. Large crowds, narrow streets, loud environment, visitors unfamiliar with the area. Knowing the positions of individual floats is extremely helpful for coordinating a smooth procession flow.

Solution

Procession coordination and announcements that move with the parade

NIKOS [audio]² units integrated into the floats' PA systems create announcement zones that move along, while the current position of each group is visible on the NIKOS [dispatcher]². This way the coordination centre always knows whether there are jams or gaps in the procession. Spectators waiting along the route can be informed and directed via NIKOS [horn]² speakers mounted on lampposts.

The NIKOS [dispatcher]² can, among other things, serve as a radio dispatch centre to coordinate the mobile radio users. Even though the NIKOS [dispatcher]² can do far more than a normal radio dispatcher, this basic function remains very important for everyday operation and saves a separate operating position for organisational radio. In an emergency, staff and safety functions can thus be controlled from a single system. Through our rental partners we provide radios and the corresponding infrastructure to set up temporary networks. If required, NIKOS can also be integrated into an existing radio system. It is often advantageous to integrate NIKOS into the organisational radio, avoiding duplicate infrastructure and multiple handheld radios for individual staff members. In certain cases, however, it can make sense to technically separate the NIKOS applications from everyday voice radio. We are happy to advise you on this.

Benefit: One radio dispatch centre for everyday operation and emergencies – without a separate operating position for organisational radio.

GPS-equipped devices show the position of each group or float on the NIKOS [dispatcher]²; NIKOS [audio]² units integrated into the PA create announcement zones that move with the procession. Groups that don't follow the rules can be addressed directly or switched off.

Benefit: A smooth procession and the known position of every group at all times.

Via NIKOS the running programme can be interrupted at individual or all locations at the push of a button and an announcement delivered – live, pre-recorded, imported as a file or via text-to-speech, synchronous and without delay. Areas without their own PA are covered by NIKOS [horn]² speakers; disruptive noise sources can be switched off briefly via NIKOS [relay]².

Benefit: Everyone receives the same information at once – increasing the sense of safety and satisfaction.

Every NIKOS [audio]² unit immediately reports a failure of its main power supply and keeps running on its internal battery for up to 16 hours. When NIKOS [audio]² is deliberately connected to an important power circuit, the power supply for the other devices connected there can also be monitored easily. If the power fails, this is reported immediately to the NIKOS [dispatcher]² and the radio of the responsible electrician, so the problem can be fixed as quickly as possible. NIKOS [horn]² speakers and NIKOS [LED]² emergency lights take over automatic emergency operation in the meantime, ensuring that announcements and emergency lighting at the important points remain available even during a power outage.

Benefit: Continuous monitoring of important power circuits and reliable emergency operation – a separate emergency generator often becomes unnecessary.

Light masts, water pumps and other devices can be switched via NIKOS [audio]²'s switching functions – by timer or radio from the NIKOS [dispatcher]², without staff having to travel there. If, for example, the water pressure drops, NIKOS tops it up automatically before a problem arises.

Benefit: Save energy and react automatically – without extra staff.

Wireless NIKOS [moon]² emergency lights are mounted in minutes without tools on masts, trees or trusses, charge during the day via their solar panel and switch automatically via a twilight sensor. Removal is only possible with a special tool (theft protection).

Benefit: Maintenance-free, wireless lighting for remote outdoor areas – mounted in minutes.

NIKOS [audio]² with its integrated player plays background music from a playlist as well as sponsor or advertising spots at fixed times or after announcements – each at its own volume.

Benefit: Added value and possible co-financing without additional devices.

At the push of a button on the NIKOS [dispatcher]² or via a scenario trigger, media players, LED screens and signage can be switched to predefined content – such as “Please pay attention to the announcement” or a severe-weather warning.

Benefit: Visual and acoustic visitor information from one system – in everyday operation and emergencies.

NIKOS can transmit and display waiting times and similar figures from projections, averages or live measurements – enabling more even use of entrances, catering stands and sanitary facilities.

Benefit: Fewer bottlenecks, higher revenue and satisfaction.

Questions and answers

Usually not a completely new one. NIKOS uses existing stage and PA systems: at every stage or tent an NIKOS [audio]² announcement unit is connected between the mixing desk and the amplifier. Areas without their own sound system are covered by the mobile outdoor loudspeaker NIKOS [horn]² – with no cables between locations.

From the central control unit NIKOS [dispatcher]² the running programme is interrupted at all or selected locations at the push of a button and the announcement is broadcast synchronously. An operator is always required for announcements and monitoring – on request a technician from the regional NIKOS partner.

NIKOS runs on its own self-sufficient radio network – independent of mobile networks, Wi-Fi and the internet. The NIKOS [audio]² announcement unit keeps running for up to 16 hours on its internal battery, and announcements via the NIKOS [horn]² outdoor loudspeaker continue during a power failure as well. Warnings therefore reach visitors even when public networks and power fail.
