NIKOS – Baustelle

Access monitoring for construction sites

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Detect unauthorized access immediately

Access monitoring presents a particular challenge on construction sites because working hours, access points and responsibilities change regularly. As a result, unauthorized individuals can enter the site more easily, while security patrols require a considerable amount of personnel. Outside regular working hours, as well as in the event of power failures or disruptions to public communication networks, security communications must nevertheless continue to function reliably.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS unites visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in a single, network-independent system. NIKOS [dispatcher]² centralizes operation and status monitoring, while NIKOS [relay]² controls external devices. This reduces cabling, installation and support requirements. Existing personnel can be deployed selectively at safety-critical points.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does using NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement a range of different functions via a single, unified communication platform. These savings can quickly offset NIKOS rental and installation costs. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Consistent use of its wide range of functions often not only increases the level of safety and makes employees’ work easier, but also produces savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS can also selectively replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through centralized announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This makes it possible to reduce staffing or deploy personnel more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced-in events: monitoring emergency exit gates with NIKOS can replace security staff guarding these gates, allowing them to be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. This offsets rental and installation costs through savings in personnel and other technology. Especially at temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, setup and operation of the security technology.
Is NIKOS resilient in crisis situations?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Because NIKOS does not rely on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS therefore responds far more resiliently to disruptions to normal operation than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communication system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled the wrong plug, NIKOS continues to operate. This means that access monitoring on construction sites remains reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted on various structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, by one or two people within just a few minutes and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
