NIKOS – Festumzug

Crisis communication for Christopher Street Day in Hamburg

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

warnings must reach the parade route despite crowding and music

At Christopher Street Day in Hamburg, dense crowds, loud music and a parade route running through the city come together. In a crisis situation, warnings and instructions must reach exactly the areas where people need to be guided. The noise from music and crowds makes it difficult to deliver acoustic signals clearly everywhere. In addition, the mobile network is often overloaded at such a large event and is unsuitable for crisis communication.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

For events such as Christopher Street Day in Hamburg, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in one platform. The system ensures information delivery even during power failures or disruptions of public communication networks. Recurring control and monitoring tasks are centrally controlled and monitored or executed by NIKOS. This reduces the need for separate loudspeaker systems, dedicated control devices, staff routes, operator posts and guard posts. The unified platform lowers material, installation and operating effort and keeps the system architecture clear for organisers, security teams and incident control.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the requirements for approval-relevant announcements?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. The system was developed for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications and operates independently of third-party public communication networks. Integration into the safety concept and official approval are handled on a project-specific basis with the organiser, specialist planners and the responsible authorities.
How are visitors addressed at critical points of the CSD?+
NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement points as required for individual areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission by radio on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal to the mobile sound systems on the floats. At positions without an existing sound system, NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output.
How does crisis communication remain independent of mobile networks and power supply?+
NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and does not depend on public communication networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. This keeps announcements and alerting reliably functional even when radio cells are overloaded or the external power supply fails.
How are announcements heard when float music is loud?+
When music is loud, NIKOS [flash]² signals the DJ or bandleader by flashing light to interrupt the music immediately. In response to the light signal, the performance or playback is stopped so that safety-relevant announcements can be understood. This allows important information to reach the audience even in high background noise along the parade route.
