Crowd Management at Open'er Festival in Gdynia

autonomous reliable cost-effective
Challenge

Centralised, safe crowd guidance

At Open'er Festival in Gdynia, crowd management is made more difficult by congestion, noise and an international audience. In an emergency, warnings and instructions must remain clearly understandable despite the loud surroundings and moving crowds. When crowd density is high, the mobile network quickly becomes overloaded, which is why systems dependent on mobile communications cannot provide reliable crisis communication.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS unites visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in a single, network-independent system. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls communication units for individual locations, selected zones or the entire festival site. This reduces the number of decentralised operator stations and the installation effort, as staff can manage communications from one central location.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times as a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. Any approval or acceptance required by the responsible authority depends on the individual project and the local conditions of the event.
Does NIKOS operate in the event of a power failure or an overloaded cellular network?+
Yes. NIKOS uses its own autonomous radio network and operates independently of public communications networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operation and also supplies power to connected additional modules. If the radio connection is interrupted, the system restores it automatically.
Can NIKOS be installed quickly at a festival site?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor applications without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within a few minutes on lamp posts, stage structures, trees, stalls or decorative elements and configure them according to requirements. A standard Schuko connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
Can NIKOS monitor emergency exit gates?+
Yes. At fenced events, NIKOS enables the technical monitoring of emergency exit gates. The status of the gates is available to the team responsible for safety, allowing security posts at the exits to be deployed at other points requiring supervision.
