During Sail Amsterdam 2030, crowd management is particularly challenging because of congestion, ambient noise and visitors from different countries. Large visitor flows along the quays and at access areas create changing pedestrian routes. In an incident, warnings and instructions must remain clear despite noise and dense crowds. Mobile networks are also quickly overloaded at high visitor densities.

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times as the market-leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. Will NIKOS continue to operate if mobile networks or the power supply fail?+
Yes. NIKOS operates through its own autonomous radio network and is fully independent of public communications networks. Following an interruption, the radio connection restores itself automatically. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also supplies connected accessory modules. This keeps crisis communication for Sail Amsterdam 2030 reliably operational during power failures or disruptions to public communications networks.
Can NIKOS be installed at short notice along quays and access areas?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount and configure the modules individually within minutes on structures such as lamp posts, stages, trees, stalls or decorations. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS can use an existing digital radio network.
How does NIKOS support compliance with nighttime noise restrictions?+
The nighttime noise function in NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally switches off all connected sound systems at the touch of a button. This facilitates permit approval and helps prevent complaints from local residents.
