Clear warnings despite showground noise and dense crowds

At the Hamburger DOM, high visitor density, narrow routes between rides and a continuously loud showground environment come together. In a hazardous situation, emergency announcements must reach visitors and operators immediately, even though music, ride noise and crowding make intelligibility difficult. During peak attendance, the mobile network is also quickly overloaded, making mobile-network-based alerting paths unsuitable for crisis situations.

Do announcements with NIKOS meet the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both routine operation and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the key reference framework. NIKOS fully meets these requirements because, unlike mobile-network-based systems, it does not depend on a third-party network and is therefore ready for immediate use at all times. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 for voice alarm systems, do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is an announcement system for temporary and mobile applications and has been used successfully in many mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. NIKOS reduces the effort required for temporary emergency announcements because existing loudspeaker and sound systems are integrated via NIKOS [audio]² and announcements are triggered centrally. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is independent of public communication networks. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. The modules are installed and individually configured by one to two people within a few minutes on structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS can use an existing digital radio network.
