NIKOS – Landesfest

Emergency announcements for the 2026 NRW-Tag in Münster

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Coordinated warnings across distributed stages and areas

At the 2026 NRW-Tag in Münster, stages, activity areas and visitor zones are spread throughout the city centre. In an emergency, announcements must reach people clearly and intelligibly—simultaneously or selectively in the affected areas—even when large crowds are on the move and public networks are reaching their limits. The challenge: in a dynamic city festival environment, comprehensive and reliable warnings can only be achieved with the right technology, regardless of the local power supply or network quality.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — fully independent of the public network. For events such as the 2026 NRW-Tag in Münster, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring on one platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives voice transmissions locally via radio and outputs them as an analogue audio signal. Quick-to-deploy, radio-based units reduce cabling requirements and enable flexible adjustments during event planning. This reduces the amount of equipment and operating effort required for distributed announcement points.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Is NIKOS designed to meet the relevant standards for announcements?+
Yes, indeed: NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. The system was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically designed for both everyday operation and emergency situations. DIN EN 50849 represents the relevant reference framework for ELA systems. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS does not depend on any external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at all times — fully meeting the standard as a result. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to NIKOS, as they are not applicable to radio-based public address systems like NIKOS. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does using NIKOS create cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can combine various functions on a single communications platform. These savings can offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. This reduces equipment requirements, cabling effort and the risk of people tripping over cable ramps. In addition, NIKOS replaces personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This saves personnel or allows them to be deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events: monitoring emergency exit gates can be covered by technically monitoring the gates with NIKOS, meaning that security guards at emergency exits can be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. Especially for temporary, time-limited events, this reduces the costs of planning, installation and operation of the safety technology.
Is NIKOS independent of mobile communications and the internet for the NRW-Tag?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is independent of public communications networks and their availability. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers connected accessory modules. This means that emergency announcements for the NRW-Tag remain reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
How flexibly can NIKOS be used for changing event areas?+
NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor use without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. If required, NIKOS can use an existing digital radio network (DMR).
