NIKOS – Kirchentag

Emergency announcements for the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear instructions at high visitor density

At the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 in Düsseldorf, crowds, ambient noise and varying language skills make emergency announcements a particular challenge. In a hazardous situation, warnings and instructions must reach many visitors unambiguously. Overloaded mobile networks and a power failure must not delay the passing on of important information.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS combines visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in one network-independent system. NIKOS [dispatcher]² directs announcements to individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. Central operation brings several control and monitoring functions together in one platform and reduces the need for separate control units, cabling and specialist staff for different subsystems. This lowers the material, installation and operating effort for the communication technology.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times as a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will advise you on the functions of NIKOS and support you in implementing your requirements cost-effectively.
Can NIKOS be deployed flexibly and at short notice?+
Yes, NIKOS was developed specifically for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a variety of structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees within a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS makes use of an existing digital radio network.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network, completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cable routes but communicates by radio, the connection re-establishes itself automatically after an interruption. NIKOS responds resiliently to disruptions of normal operation and proves itself as a crisis-ready communication system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even with an overloaded mobile network, an internet provider outage or an interrupted power supply, NIKOS keeps working. This keeps emergency announcements for the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
NIKOS combines functions for emergency announcements, staff alerting, visitor information and system control in a single communication platform. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS are offset by savings on technology, planning, setup and operation. At the same time, central operation simplifies workflows for event staff. Tasks at several locations can be controlled and monitored centrally, so staff are deployed specifically at safety-critical points. At fenced events such as festivals and corporate events, further savings potential arises from technical monitoring of emergency exit gates with NIKOS. Staff who would otherwise be deployed solely to check these gates can be deployed elsewhere. In this way, NIKOS lowers staff and technology costs for temporary, time-limited events.
