NIKOS – Jahrmarkt

Emergency announcements for the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear warnings despite loud music systems

At the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta, rides and showmen’s businesses create a high, continuous level of background noise. In an emergency, warnings and instructions must reach all visitors clearly and intelligibly despite the noise and crowds. The high density of visitors can also overload the mobile network, meaning that mobile-network-based systems are not sufficient for emergency announcements.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — fully independent of the public network. NIKOS [audio]² interrupts the showmen’s music systems for the duration of an emergency announcement, thereby reducing the level of interfering noise. The existing music systems can also be used for announcements, eliminating the need to set up a separate public-address system and reducing material and installation costs.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
How does NIKOS help ensure compliance with quiet hours?+
The quiet-hours function in NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally switches off all connected public-address systems at the push of a button. This makes it easier to obtain official approval and helps prevent complaints from local residents.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a variety of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS also uses an existing digital radio network.
Where does using NIKOS provide cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement a range of functions through a single, unified communication platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Consistent use of NIKOS’s wide range of functions often results not only in a higher level of safety and easier work for employees, but even in savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can be used to specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events, such as festivals and corporate events: monitoring emergency exit gates technically with NIKOS can replace the need to guard them, allowing security posts at emergency exits to be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. This significantly reduces the costs of planning, setup and operation of safety technology, especially at temporary, time-limited events.
