NIKOS – Kirchentag

Emergency communication system for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Instructions in the event of power and network failures

At the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf, emergency communication must function reliably despite large visitor numbers, crowds and a noisy environment. Warnings and instructions must reach all visitors in a clearly understandable way, even when they speak different languages. During periods of high demand, public mobile networks become overloaded. A power outage must not impair the transmission of information in a dangerous situation either.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Instead of multiple separate solutions: NIKOS unites visitor information, system monitoring, visitor guidance and control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units selectively for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This reduces the need for separate control devices as well as for specialists to install and maintain different subsystems. Centralized operation reduces the effort required to set up and operate emergency communication.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor use without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within just a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost benefits?+
Cost benefits result from bundling functions on a unified communication platform. NIKOS combines staff alerting, visitor information and system control. This reduces material requirements, cabling effort and the risk of people tripping over cable ramps. Central announcements, remote control and status monitoring also reduce the effort required for distributed security, reporting and operating posts. This makes personnel available at safety-critical points. At fenced events, technical monitoring of emergency exit gates supports the guarding of the exits. For temporary events, NIKOS reduces the planning, setup and operating effort required for safety technology.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communication networks. Because NIKOS communicates by radio, the system automatically re-establishes the connection after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers connected accessory modules. NIKOS remains operational when mobile networks are overloaded, the internet connection is disrupted or the power supply fails. This means that the emergency communication system for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 remains available even when public communication networks are disrupted.
