NIKOS – Großveranstaltung

Emergency lighting for the major event in Dresden

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Lighting failure makes navigation and crowd guidance difficult

At the major event in Dresden, visitors must be able to identify safe routes even in darkness, changing weather conditions and the event of technical failures. If the regular lighting fails, gaps in orientation arise in densely populated areas, making crowd guidance and announcements more difficult. Temporary event spaces often lack continuous permanent infrastructure; makeshift cable routes increase setup effort and the risk of tripping. At the same time, safety technology is subject to tight budget and time constraints, even though it must be immediately available in an emergency.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. NIKOS [LED]² adds emergency lighting at safety-critical points to the wireless announcement units. NIKOS [relay]² centrally switches external devices. This reduces material requirements, cabling effort and the need for separate control solutions, while NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. Recurring operating and monitoring tasks are managed centrally and monitored or carried out by NIKOS. This reduces the need for staff to move around the site as well as the number of operators and security posts required.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
How does the emergency lighting remain operational during a power or network failure?+
NIKOS operates via its own autonomous wireless network and independently of public communications networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. This ensures that the emergency lighting for the major event remains reliably operational even if the power supply fails or public communications networks experience disruptions.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and used flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
Where does using NIKOS provide cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions via a unified communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find several specific examples of savings here. When the wide range of functions is used consistently, it often leads not only to a higher level of safety and easier work for employees, but even to savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting, operating or guard posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This either reduces staffing requirements or allows personnel to be deployed more effectively at safety-critical points.
