NIKOS – Festival

Emergency warning system for the Glastonbury Festival

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Emergency warnings beyond public networks

At the Glastonbury Festival, emergency warnings must reach a large, internationally mixed audience. Loud stage sound and densely occupied areas make spoken instructions difficult to understand. High visitor numbers overload mobile networks, while power failures or disruptions to public networks complicate crisis communication.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS brings together announcements, alerting, visitor guidance and device control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls individual announcement locations, selected areas or the entire festival site. This reduces the need for personnel at distributed communication posts and for separate control equipment, lowering installation and operating costs.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. NIKOS partners provide advice and support for planning and implementation.
Does NIKOS remain operational if mobile networks or mains power fail at the Glastonbury Festival?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and remains independent of public communication networks. If a radio connection is interrupted, it restores itself automatically. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also supplies connected accessory modules. Emergency warnings for the Glastonbury Festival remain functional during power failures or disruptions to public communication networks.
How does NIKOS technically monitor emergency exit gates at the Glastonbury Festival?+
NIKOS provides technical monitoring for emergency exit gates at enclosed events such as the Glastonbury Festival. Security posts at emergency exits are reassigned to other safety-critical areas. This reduces staffing requirements while maintaining technical oversight of the gates.
How quickly is NIKOS installed for the Glastonbury Festival?+
NIKOS is designed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. One or two people install the modules within minutes on lighting columns, stages or booths and configure them for the required application. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
