Evacuation Announcements for the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear evacuation, even without network coverage

During the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges, broadcasting evacuation announcements is a challenge due to large crowds, ambient noise and the audience’s linguistic diversity. In a dangerous situation, instructions must remain clearly understandable and be transmitted immediately. Power outages and disruptions to public networks make the reliable communication of safety information even more difficult.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS brings together announcements, alerting, visitor guidance and device control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, targeted zones or the entire site, ensuring that evacuation instructions are transmitted exactly where they are needed. This configuration reduces the need for separate broadcasting and control equipment, as well as for personnel dedicated to installing and operating multiple systems.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will advise you on NIKOS’s extensive range of functions and support you in implementing the requirements economically.
Do evacuation announcements remain operational in the event of a power or network failure in Bourges?+
Yes. NIKOS operates on its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communication networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers the connected accessory modules. Evacuation announcements for the European Capital of Culture 2028 therefore remain operational even in the event of a power failure or disruption to public networks.
Can NIKOS be installed quickly for the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
Yes. NIKOS is designed for flexible outdoor operations without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on various structures, such as streetlamps, stages, stands or trees, within a few minutes and then configure them as required. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
How can evacuation announcements cover the different areas of the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
NIKOS adapts to the site layout and the required announcement locations. The units communicate by radio, without relying on connection cables. The locations and broadcast zones are planned according to the project and safety requirements.
