NIKOS – Kirchentag

Evacuation announcements for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear instructions in high visitor volumes

At the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf, making an evacuation announcement is particularly challenging due to crowding, loud ambient noise and visitors with different language skills. In a hazardous situation, instructions must be issued quickly and be clearly understandable to everyone affected. Different areas where people may be present and heavily congested mobile networks make it even more difficult to communicate information.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. NIKOS [audio]² provides evacuation announcements at the designated locations and remains operational via its internal battery even in the event of a power failure. The rental solution eliminates the need to purchase, store and maintain a permanently available announcement system, reducing the technical effort required for temporary deployment.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Is NIKOS designed to meet the relevant standards for announcements?+
Yes, indeed: NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. The system was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically designed for both everyday operation and emergency situations. DIN EN 50849 represents the relevant reference framework for ELA systems. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS does not depend on any external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at all times — fully meeting the standard as a result. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to NIKOS, as they are not applicable to radio-based public address systems like NIKOS. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically restored after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore significantly more resilient to disruptions in normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis readiness of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time, which also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has unplugged the wrong cable, NIKOS continues to function. This ensures that evacuation announcements for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 remain reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within just a few minutes on a range of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS can be integrated into an existing digital radio network.
How can announcements be controlled for individual areas?+
NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This makes it possible to transmit information and evacuation announcements to the affected areas in a way that matches the situation.
