NIKOS – Gedenkveranstaltung

Evacuation announcement for European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Audible evacuation, even without network coverage

During European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges, an evacuation announcement must quickly reach all visitors concerned. In a dangerous situation, large crowds, ambient noise and the presence of visitors speaking different languages make it more difficult to communicate clear instructions. Disruptions to public networks also make it more difficult to reliably broadcast evacuation instructions.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² centralises control of all broadcasting units on the site. This centralised control reduces the need for separate equipment, individual installations and operating personnel at each broadcasting point. NIKOS thereby simplifies the system architecture and reduces hardware, installation and operating costs.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant public address and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the relevant reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets the requirements specified therein, as it does not depend on an external network and can therefore be used immediately at any time. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully deployed in numerous mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. NIKOS provides advice and support for planning and implementation in accordance with the project requirements.
How quickly can NIKOS be installed for European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
NIKOS was designed for flexible outdoor operations without fixed infrastructure. One or two people install the modules within a few minutes on suitable structures at the site and configure them for the relevant application. A standard Schuko power socket is sufficient for continuous operation.
How do evacuation announcements remain operational if public networks are disrupted?+
NIKOS remains operational through its own autonomous radio network, which is independent of public communication networks. After an interruption, the radio link is automatically restored. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operating time and also supplies power to the connected accessory modules.
How do visitors receive appropriate instructions during an evacuation at European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
The organisers define the evacuation instructions according to the situation and the area concerned. Visitors therefore receive the instruction applicable to their location, rather than automatically receiving the same message as the entire audience.
