NIKOS – Volksfest

Evacuation Public Address for the Hannover Schützenfest

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Announcements must reach both the parade and festival tents

At the Hannover Schützenfest, the parade and the stationary festival tent operations take place simultaneously or in close succession, while very large numbers of visitors move between the parade route, tents and fairground rides. Evacuation announcements must therefore reach different visitor areas without requiring emergency personnel to travel to or coordinate each location individually by hand. The traditional event involves clubs, marching bands, fairground operators and volunteer helpers; without a shared coordination layer, important information reaches the right people too slowly in an emergency.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS brings together announcements, alerting, visitor guidance and device control in a single network-independent platform. For events such as the Hannover Schützenfest, NIKOS combines the central activation and control of announcements, alarm notifications and information messages in one platform. Central operation is handled via NIKOS [dispatcher]², which controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission wirelessly on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. At locations without an existing public address system, NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output, while NIKOS [LED]² is used for emergency lighting and NIKOS [relay]² for switching external devices. This reduces the need for materials, cabling and operation, as well as the number of staff journeys, operating posts and security posts required.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Is NIKOS designed to meet the relevant standards for announcements?+
Yes, indeed: NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. The system was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically designed for both everyday operation and emergency situations. DIN EN 50849 represents the relevant reference framework for ELA systems. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS does not depend on any external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at all times — fully meeting the standard as a result. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to NIKOS, as they are not applicable to radio-based public address systems like NIKOS. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
How quickly can the evacuation public address system be set up?+
NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor operations without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within just a few minutes on a variety of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
How can announcements be heard over loud brass-band music?+
When the music is loud, NIKOS [flash]² uses a flashing light to signal to the conductor, bandleader or DJ that the music must be stopped immediately.
How does NIKOS support compliance with quiet hours?+
The quiet-hours function in NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally switches off all connected public address systems at the touch of a button. This makes it easier to obtain official approval and helps prevent complaints from local residents.
