Clear warnings despite fairground noise and dense crowds

At the Hamburger DOM, large numbers of visitors crowd closely between rides and the continuously running music systems of the fairground operators. In an emergency situation, warnings and instructions must reach all visitors clearly understandable, despite noise and crowds. At this visitor density, the mobile network is quickly overloaded, making mobile network-based systems unsuitable in a crisis.

For events such as the Hamburger DOM, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in a single platform. The system ensures information transmission even in the event of power failure or disruptions to public communication networks. NIKOS [dispatcher]² addresses the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, targeted areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission by radio on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. NIKOS [horn]² adds acoustic output at positions without an existing music system. NIKOS [LED]² provides emergency lighting, and NIKOS [relay]² controls external devices. By combining multiple functions in one platform, the need for separate loudspeaker systems, dedicated control devices and specialist staff for installing and operating different subsystems is reduced. Do announcements with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications and is technically designed for everyday and emergency use. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems (ELA systems), DIN EN 50849 is the decisive orientation framework. The requirements stated therein are fully met by NIKOS – unlike mobile-network-based systems – as there is no dependency on an external network and immediate usability can always be ensured. Other standards known from security technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to the field of application and range of functions of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is an announcement system for temporary and mobile use and has been successfully deployed for many mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. How are announcements understood despite loud fairground music systems?+
NIKOS [audio]² interrupts the connected fairground operators’ music systems for the duration of an announcement. This immediately reduces the interference noise level at the affected locations and significantly improves announcement intelligibility. Where necessary, existing music systems are used for the announcement, so no separate announcement loudspeaker setup is needed at these points.
Is NIKOS quickly and flexibly deployable?+
Yes. NIKOS was specially developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be installed and individually configured by one to two people within a few minutes on a variety of structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
How are visitors informed during temporary access stops?+
In the event of overcrowding, announcements are issued specifically at entrances, waiting areas and other visitor areas where people should be guided or informed. This communicates temporary access stops, alternative routes and instructions directly, without using mobile-network-dependent channels.
