NIKOS – CHIO Aachen – Pferdesport

Mobile Public Address System for the CHIO Aachen

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Safety announcements must remain intelligible despite crowds and ambient noise

The CHIO Aachen brings together large visitor numbers, temporary event areas and constantly changing ambient noise levels. In a hazardous situation, warnings and instructions must reach visitors and staff quickly, clearly and simultaneously. When visitor density is high, public mobile networks can quickly become overloaded, making mobile-network-based public address systems unsuitable for safety-critical communication.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site; NIKOS [horn]² extends audio output to positions without an existing public address system. This eliminates the need for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions for mobile announcements, alerting and visitor information. Staff travel, control points and security posts can be reduced because recurring tasks are centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does the mobile public address system deliver cost savings?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can combine various functions on a single communication platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of potential savings here. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or control posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points.
Does NIKOS operate independently of mobile networks and the power supply at the CHIO Aachen?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own self-contained radio network and independently of public communication networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers connected accessory modules. This means the mobile public address system for the CHIO Aachen remains reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and used flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on different structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
