NIKOS – Kirchentag

Mobile security technology for the 2028 German Catholic Convention in Paderborn

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Different venues need a shared communications and alerting layer

At the 2028 German Catholic Convention in Paderborn, visitors, participants and emergency personnel will be spread across different venues throughout the city. This presents security planners with the challenge of reaching geographically separate areas simultaneously or selectively. Coordination must match the event’s dignified setting while allowing a rapid switch to clear warnings and visitor guidance in an emergency. The high volume of visitors places additional strain on public communications networks.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS unites visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in a single, network-independent system. For events such as the 2028 German Catholic Convention in Paderborn, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in a single platform. Rapidly deployable, radio-based units reduce the need for long cable runs, separate control devices and repeated travel between venues. Central operation is handled via NIKOS [dispatcher]², which controls the announcement units as required—for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output at locations without an existing public address system, while NIKOS [LED]² and NIKOS [relay]² integrate additional components into the system architecture and reduce material and staffing requirements. This creates a clear and manageable system structure.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where do mobile security technology solutions offer cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement various functions via a unified communications platform. This eliminates the need for separate speaker, control and communications solutions, reducing material requirements, cabling effort and organisational workload. For mobile security technology tasks, staff alerting, visitor information and system control are combined in one platform. This allows personnel resources to be reduced in a targeted manner or deployed more effectively at security-critical points. Especially for temporary events, this lowers the costs of planning, setting up and operating the security technology.
Does NIKOS remain independent of mobile communications and the power supply during the German Catholic Convention?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own radio network and independently of public communications networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. If the power supply fails or public networks are disrupted, the mobile security technology remains operational throughout the German Catholic Convention.
Can NIKOS be deployed at different venues at short notice?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted and configured by one or two people within a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
