NIKOS – Weihnachtsmarkt

Perimeter protection for the Christmas market in Magdeburg

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Warning and alerting when vehicle barriers and fences are breached

At the Christmas market in Magdeburg, vehicle barriers, fences and access points remain in public space for several weeks. For perimeter protection, breached barriers, opened emergency exits or damaged fence elements must be noticed without delay, even though visitor flows, delivery traffic, darkness, frost and moisture make the situation difficult to assess. Delays, unclear responsibilities or warning signals that are only locally perceptible increase the risk for visitors, emergency teams and organisers. At the same time, safety concepts and cancellation decisions for Christmas markets are subject to strong public and political pressure.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

For events such as the Christmas market in Magdeburg, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages and remote control in one platform. Transmission runs via a dedicated radio network and remains independent of public communication networks. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, targeted areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives the speech transmission by radio on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal; NIKOS [horn]² adds acoustic output at positions without an existing sound system. NIKOS [relay]² switches external devices, while NIKOS [LED]² provides emergency lighting. Unified operation reduces material, installation and operating effort as well as staffing requirements for separate subsystems.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements and alerts with NIKOS comply with DIN EN 50849?+
Yes. NIKOS complies with DIN EN 50849 (VDE 0828-1) for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. In addition, NIKOS takes requirements from DIN VDE V 0827 for emergency and hazard response systems into account. NIKOS is one of the leading solutions for mobile alerting and evacuation systems; the specific design, integration into the safety concept and assessment by the relevant authorities are planned and coordinated on a project-specific basis.
Where does perimeter protection with NIKOS create cost advantages?+
NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. For perimeter protection at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, staff can be deployed more specifically at safety-critical points because central triggering and announcement paths enable short reaction chains.
How resilient is NIKOS for perimeter protection at the Christmas market?+
NIKOS was developed for use in critical situations. The self-sufficient radio network operates independently of mobile networks, the internet and public communication networks. During a power failure, NIKOS [audio]² announcement units continue running on their internal battery for up to 16 hours. This keeps emergency announcements for perimeter protection at the Christmas market in Magdeburg available even during power failures, network outages or damaged cable routes.
How flexibly can the modules be installed at the Christmas market?+
For temporary events, NIKOS does not require permanently installed infrastructure. The modules can be installed by one or two people within a few minutes on lamp posts, stalls, trees or decorations. The positions are adapted to security points, announcement areas and visitor routing.
