Severe Weather Warning for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective
Challenge

Deliver warnings independently of mobile networks

At the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf, severe weather warnings must reach many visitors quickly across different event areas. Crowds, ambient noise and visitors who speak other languages make it more difficult to communicate clear instructions. When visitor numbers are high, the mobile network becomes overloaded, meaning that mobile-based warnings cannot be relied on in an emergency.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS unites visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in a single, network-independent system. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls announcements for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This makes it possible to trigger severe weather warnings precisely, while reducing the need for additional control units, cabling and the operation of separate subsystems.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times as a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on NIKOS's wide range of functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore much more resilient to disruptions in normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has unplugged the wrong cable, NIKOS continues to operate. This ensures that severe weather warnings for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 remain reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within just a few minutes on a range of structures, such as streetlamps, stages, trees, stalls or decorations, and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
Where does using NIKOS create cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement different functions via a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS not only increases the level of safety and makes work easier for employees, but often even reduces the overall budget. For severe weather warnings and other safety-critical coordination tasks, this means that separate loudspeaker, control and communications solutions are no longer required — NIKOS combines employee alerting, visitor information and system control on a single platform. This reduces material requirements, cabling work and the risk of tripping over cable ramps. In addition, NIKOS can reduce staffing requirements in a targeted way: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows staff to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events: monitoring emergency exit gates can be handled through technical gate monitoring with NIKOS, eliminating security posts at emergency exits or allowing them to be deployed more effectively elsewhere. This offsets rental and installation costs through savings in personnel and other technology. Particularly at temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, setup and operation of safety technology.
