NIKOS – Tag der Bundeswehr

Severe Weather Warning for Bundeswehr Day

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Quickly inform visitors across expansive grounds

At Bundeswehr Day, visitors, demonstration areas and information zones are spread across expansive grounds. When severe weather is approaching, warnings and specific instructions must reach every area quickly and clearly. High visitor numbers place additional strain on public mobile networks, while people simultaneously need to move to sheltered areas.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. For severe weather warnings, announcements and visual signals can be triggered centrally via NIKOS [dispatcher]². This eliminates the need for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions, as well as multiple reporting posts distributed across the grounds. Personnel can instead be deployed at safety-critical points.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Does NIKOS remain operational in the event of a power or network failure?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. Since NIKOS communicates by radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also supplies connected accessory modules with power. This means that severe weather warnings for Bundeswehr Day remain reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
How do warnings reach event areas that are a long way away?+
NIKOS connects the deployed modules via its own radio network and controls announcements centrally. This allows warnings to be triggered simultaneously in different event areas without requiring a separate operator for each area. The specific planning of the modules is based on the site layout, visitor flow and the designated sheltered areas.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within just a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
Severe Weather Warning for Bundeswehr Day: Where can NIKOS be rented?+
