NIKOS – Stadtfest

Severe weather warning for the Rakoczy Festival in Bad Kissingen

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Warn visitors across multiple areas quickly and clearly

At the Rakoczy Festival in Bad Kissingen, stages, stalls and visitor flows are spread across various areas of the city centre. In the event of a severe weather warning, visitors, participants and operators must quickly find out which areas to avoid and where they should go. Noise, crowds and constantly changing locations make clear announcements more difficult. At the same time, the mobile network cannot be relied on when visitor density is high.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. In the event of a severe weather warning, NIKOS [dispatcher]² can address individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission on site via radio and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. At locations without an existing sound system, NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output. NIKOS [flash]² provides a visual indication of safety-relevant announcements, while NIKOS [LED]² provides emergency lighting. Centralised control reduces the material, cabling and installation required. Staff travel as well as operating and guard posts are reduced because recurring tasks are centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where do cost benefits arise when using NIKOS at the Rakoczy Festival?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions via a single, standardised communication platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Separate speaker, control and communication solutions are no longer required for severe weather warnings and other safety-relevant coordination tasks. This means that rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communications networks. As NIKOS does not rely on cables, the connection is automatically restored after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also supplies connected accessory modules. This means that the severe weather warning at the Rakoczy Festival remains reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
How can NIKOS be integrated into the temporary setup of the Rakoczy Festival?+
NIKOS was developed specifically for flexible outdoor applications without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within a few minutes on a range of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
