Severe weather warnings for ChocolART in Tübingen

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Informing visitors clearly when the weather changes

At ChocolART in Tübingen, heavy visitor numbers, a lively environment and changing visitor locations make severe weather warnings a particular challenge. Sudden changes in the weather require clear, immediately understandable instructions for visitors and everyone involved in the event. If the mobile network is overloaded by the high visitor density or the power supply fails, warnings must still remain reliably available.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Instead of several separate solutions: NIKOS combines visitor information, system monitoring, visitor guidance and control in one network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² specifically controls individual NIKOS [audio]² modules at individual announcement locations, in defined areas or across the whole of ChocolART. Severe weather warnings and instructions can thus be issued from one location, while the effort for separate control technology, cabling and operating staff decreases.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant public address and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the relevant reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets the requirements specified therein, as it does not depend on an external network and can therefore be used immediately at any time. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully deployed in numerous mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will advise you on the functions of NIKOS and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof in the event of power and network failures?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network, completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cable routes but communicates by radio, the connection re-establishes itself automatically after an interruption. NIKOS therefore responds far more resiliently to disruptions of normal operation than many other systems, proving the crisis readiness of this communication system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled the wrong plug, NIKOS keeps working. This keeps severe weather warnings for ChocolART reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed flexibly and at short notice?+
Yes, NIKOS was developed specifically for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. One or two people mount the NIKOS modules on a variety of structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees within a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
With NIKOS, different functions can be implemented via a single communication platform, depending on the application. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS can quickly be offset by these savings. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When the wide range of functions is used consistently, the result is not only a higher level of safety and an easier workload for staff, but often even savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace staff: tasks that would otherwise require several stewarding, reporting or operating posts spread across the site are handled from one location by central announcements, remote control and status monitoring – so staff can be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings on staff and other technology. Especially for temporary, time-limited events, the costs of planning, setting up and operating safety technology drop significantly.
