NIKOS – Parkfest

Severe weather warnings for IGA Ruhrgebiet 2027 in Dortmund

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Inform visitors about protective measures in good time

At IGA Ruhrgebiet 2027 in Dortmund, severe weather warnings are a key safety task due to the extensive outdoor areas, changing visitor flows and high visitor numbers. Warnings and specific instructions must reach all affected areas in good time and in an easily understandable form. High visitor densities can overload public communication networks. In a hazardous situation, mobile-network-based information may not be available.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

One platform for everything: NIKOS unites visitor information, alerting, crowd management and control in a single, network-independent system. NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally triggers warnings and instructions and transmits them to defined target areas. The system combines public address announcements, alarm notifications, information announcements, remote control and status monitoring in a single communications platform. This reduces the material, installation and operating costs associated with separate subsystems.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant public address and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the relevant reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets the requirements specified therein, as it does not depend on an external network and can therefore be used immediately at any time. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully deployed in numerous mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS resilient in a crisis?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communications networks. Following a radio interruption, NIKOS automatically re-establishes the connection. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operation and also powers connected accessory modules. NIKOS continues to operate when mobile networks are overloaded, the internet connection is disrupted or the power supply fails. Severe weather warnings for IGA Ruhrgebiet 2027 reach the designated target areas even when public communications networks are disrupted.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on lampposts, stages, stands or trees within just a few minutes and configure them for the specific deployment. For continuous operation, a standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient.
Where does using NIKOS provide cost benefits?+
NIKOS reduces material, installation and operating costs because a single communications platform performs multiple tasks. For severe weather warnings and other coordination tasks, NIKOS combines staff alerting, visitor information and system control. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. This reduces cabling requirements and the risk of trips caused by cable ramps. Centralised control and technical monitoring relieve the workload of security, reporting and operating posts. At fenced events, NIKOS technically monitors emergency exit gates, allowing security personnel stationed at these gates to be assigned to other safety-critical tasks. This reduces the costs of planning, setting up and operating the safety technology.
