Severe Weather Warnings for the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Reach distributed visitor areas clearly and simultaneously

At the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck, stages, stalls and visitor flows are spread across the streets and squares of the city centre. In the event of a severe weather warning, visitors, stall operators and emergency personnel must receive clear instructions simultaneously—independently of public mobile networks, which are often overloaded. The challenge is to reach every area reliably and immediately so that warnings and instructions are not drowned out by noise or lost among dispersed locations.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. For events such as the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in a single platform. The system ensures that information can still be communicated in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks. NIKOS [dispatcher]² flexibly controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives voice transmissions on site via radio and outputs them as an analogue audio signal; NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output wherever no public address system is available. Quickly deployable, radio-based units replace long cable runs and reduce the need for personnel to move around the site, as warnings, switching operations and status messages are centrally controlled and monitored or executed by NIKOS.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does using NIKOS deliver cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement a range of different functions through a single communications platform. The savings achieved in this way can quickly offset NIKOS rental and installation costs. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS often delivers savings in the overall budget in addition to increasing the level of safety and making employees’ work easier. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS can also be used to replace personnel in a targeted manner: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events: monitoring emergency exit gates technically with NIKOS can replace the need to guard these gates, or allow security personnel to be deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. This significantly reduces the costs of planning, installing and operating safety technology, particularly for temporary events with a limited duration.
How does the severe weather warning remain independent of the mobile network at the Old Town Festival?+
NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS therefore responds far more resiliently to disruptions of normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has unplugged the wrong cable, NIKOS continues to operate. This ensures that severe weather warnings at the Old Town Festival remain reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be installed in the old town at short notice?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within just a few minutes on various structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
