NIKOS – IAA

Status Monitoring for IAA Mobility in Munich

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Central overview of operating status

At IAA Mobility in Munich, status monitoring presents a particular challenge given the high number of visitors, temporary structures and event areas operating in parallel. Those responsible must be able to monitor the operating status of safety-critical components at all times without having to distribute control personnel across the entire site. At the same time, heavily congested public communication networks can make coordination between response teams more difficult.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. Status monitoring for IAA Mobility reduces the need for manual inspection rounds and for control personnel deployed at decentralized locations. Central operation via NIKOS [dispatcher]² provides an overview of connected components and reduces the effort required to install, manage and operate temporary safety technology.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can combine different functions on a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of potential savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS not only increases the level of safety and makes work easier for employees, but often also reduces the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS can also reduce staffing requirements in a targeted manner: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site are centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS. This allows staff to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical locations. The greatest potential for savings is at fenced-off events: guarding emergency exit gates can be replaced by technically monitoring the gates with NIKOS, eliminating the need for guards at emergency exits or allowing them to be deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. This significantly reduces the costs of planning, installation and operation of safety technology, especially at temporary events with a limited duration.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Because NIKOS does not rely on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore far more resilient to disruptions of normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled out the wrong plug, NIKOS continues to operate. This means that status monitoring for IAA Mobility remains reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and used flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a variety of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
