Status Monitoring for Major Events in Dresden

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Limited visibility of areas and feedback delays decisions

At major events in Dresden, reports from visitor areas, access roads, restricted zones and technical points come in simultaneously. When this information is collected solely through individual radio calls or by walking between locations, no reliable overview of the current status of the event site is available. Especially when visitor numbers are high, decisions about crowd management, announcements and safety measures must be made without delay. If the power supply or public communication networks fail, the situation is further aggravated by the lack of central feedback and clearly defined responsibilities.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. For events such as major events in Dresden, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring on a single platform. Central operation via NIKOS [dispatcher]² enables individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site to be addressed. NIKOS [relay]² switches external devices, NIKOS [LED]² supplements emergency lighting, and NIKOS [audio]² receives voice transmissions by radio on site and outputs them as an analogue audio signal. This reduces the need for separate control devices, long cable runs and additional operator stations; recurring tasks can be controlled and carried out centrally. This reduces the material, installation and operating effort while ensuring a clear system architecture.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
How can NIKOS help reduce costs?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement a range of different functions via a single communication platform. The savings achieved in this way can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of potential savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS often delivers savings in the overall budget in addition to increasing the level of safety and making work easier for employees. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operator stations distributed across the site can be handled from a single location using central announcements and remote control. This can reduce staffing requirements or allow personnel to be deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential is found at fenced events: monitoring emergency exit gates with NIKOS can replace guarding at these gates, allowing security personnel at emergency exits to be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. This offsets rental and installation costs through savings on personnel and other technology. Particularly for temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, setting up and operating the safety technology.
Does NIKOS remain operational if the power supply or public networks fail?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Because NIKOS communicates by radio rather than relying on cable routes, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore much more resilient to disruptions in regular operation than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communication system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. This ensures that status monitoring and safety-critical announcements for major events remain reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly on different structures?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without permanent infrastructure. The modules can be mounted on and individually configured for a range of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, by one or two people within just a few minutes. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. Under certain circumstances, NIKOS can also use an existing digital radio network.
