NIKOS – Stage

Temporary Safety PA Systems for Festivals

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Delivering clear warnings despite stage noise

At festivals, temporary safety PA systems face particular challenges due to crowds, high ambient noise and constantly changing visitor flows. Stage noise and dense crowds make it difficult to understand important warnings and instructions. In an emergency, however, this information must reliably reach all relevant areas and visitors.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — fully independent of the public network. Central operation via NIKOS [dispatcher]² reduces the need for separate control devices and operator stations. At fenced festivals, technical monitoring of emergency exit gates can reduce the workload of security personnel and free up staff capacity for safety-critical tasks.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does NIKOS provide cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can combine different functions on a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset NIKOS's rental and installation costs. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS often delivers not only a higher level of safety and easier work for employees, but also savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operator stations distributed across the site can be centrally managed from a single location through announcements, remote control and status monitoring, and monitored or performed by NIKOS. This makes it possible either to reduce staffing levels or to deploy personnel more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest potential for savings arises at fenced events such as festivals: monitoring emergency exit gates technically with NIKOS can take the place of guarding them, meaning that security posts at emergency exits can be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. Especially at temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, installing and operating the safety technology.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses existing digital radio networks.
Is NIKOS resilient in a crisis?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. As NIKOS communicates by radio rather than relying on cable routes, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore far more resilient to disruptions to normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time and also supplies connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled out the wrong plug, NIKOS continues to operate. This means that temporary safety PA systems for festivals remain reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
