NIKOS – Baustelle

Theft protection for construction sites

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Monitor valuable machinery and fenced-off areas without complex cabling

Construction sites often contain valuable machinery, tools and materials in fenced-off areas that change over time. Many construction phases are unstaffed after working hours or once work has been completed, while temporary routes, unfinished structures and construction noise make reliable communication more difficult. Especially for temporary outdoor operations such as construction sites, theft protection requires a solution that works independently of permanent structures and can be adapted flexibly to changing situations.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Instead of multiple separate solutions: NIKOS unites visitor information, system monitoring, visitor guidance and control in a single network-independent platform. For construction sites like these, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in a single platform. The solution ensures that information can still be transmitted in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks. Rapidly deployable, radio-based units reduce the need for long cable runs and simplify the protection of changing construction areas. Centralised operation via NIKOS [dispatcher]² reduces the need for staff travel, operators and security posts, as recurring tasks can be centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS. This reduces material, installation and operating costs while ensuring a clear system architecture.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Are announcements made via NIKOS standard-compliant?+
Yes — NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). The system was designed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting tasks, technically built for everyday operation as well as for emergencies. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 sets out the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based solutions — does not depend on any external network, it is always immediately usable and fully meets the requirements set out in the standard. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 or DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant for NIKOS in terms of approval. Since 2017, NIKOS has been used successfully many times a public address system for temporary and mobile applications in mission-critical communication tasks. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
How quickly can NIKOS be installed on changing construction sites?+
NIKOS is designed for flexible outdoor operations without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount and configure the modules on construction fences, scaffolding or containers within just a few minutes. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
Does alerting remain available if public networks fail?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own independent radio network and does not rely on public communication networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of runtime and also powers connected accessory modules. This means theft protection for construction sites remains reliably operational even if the power supply fails or public communication networks are disrupted.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost savings for theft protection?+
NIKOS uses a single communication platform to provide multiple safety-critical functions. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. Ongoing operating costs also decrease because central announcements, remote control and status monitoring combine tasks that would otherwise require several distributed operator or monitoring posts. This creates clear cost advantages in planning, installation and operation, especially on temporary construction sites.
Theft protection for construction sites: Where can NIKOS be rented?+
