Visitor Guidance for the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Guide visitor flows, zone by zone

At the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges, guiding visitors is a challenge because of the crowds, the different activity areas and the international audience. Instructions must remain clear and comprehensible as visitors move between several zones. If mobile networks become overloaded or public communications are disrupted, transmitting information becomes more difficult.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS brings together announcements, alerting, visitor guidance and device control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls announcements for specific locations, targeted zones or the entire site, allowing visitors to be guided according to the situation. This reduces the need for staff posts distributed throughout the site and for separate control equipment.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. NIKOS meets the relevant requirements because its operation does not depend on a third-party public network and allows immediate use.
Does visitor guidance at the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges remain operational in the event of a network or power failure?+
Yes. NIKOS uses its own autonomous radio network and operates independently of public communication networks. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers the connected accessory modules. Radio links are automatically restored after an interruption.
Can NIKOS be installed quickly for the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor operations without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can install the modules within a few minutes on various structures such as streetlamps, stages, stands or trees, and then configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation.
Where does NIKOS reduce costs for the European Capital of Culture 2028 in Bourges?+
NIKOS primarily reduces the need for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Equipment and cabling requirements are reduced, while information and emergency announcements can be made from a single point. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS are quickly offset by these savings. By using its various functions in a coordinated manner, staff can be deployed more effectively at critical security points.
