NIKOS – Volksfest

Visitor information for Gillamoos in Abensberg

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Announcements must remain intelligible despite tent noise and crowds

At Gillamoos in Abensberg, densely occupied festival tents, fairground attractions and periods of heavy crowds at the entrances come together. In this acoustic environment, visitor information becomes critical when safety announcements, information about access restrictions and instructions must reach the entire site quickly and clearly. At the same time, high visitor density can be expected to overload mobile network cells, while the power supply may be vulnerable to disruptions.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — fully independent of the public network. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. This means that information and safety announcements do not have to be triggered manually at multiple locations. NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output at positions without an existing sound system. Quickly deployable, wireless units reduce cable runs, material requirements and the number of operating posts.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does using NIKOS create cost savings?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions via a unified communication platform. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS can be quickly offset by these savings. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS often not only increases the level of safety and makes work easier for employees, but can even reduce the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS can also specifically reduce staffing requirements: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows staff to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest potential for savings arises at fenced-in events such as festivals and corporate events: monitoring emergency exit gates technically with NIKOS can replace the need to guard them, allowing security posts at emergency exits to be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. This means that rental and installation costs are offset by savings in personnel and other technology. Particularly for temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, installation and operation of the safety technology.
How can announcements be heard when the fairground operators are using loud music systems?+
NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission wirelessly on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. The fairground operators’ music systems are interrupted for the duration of an announcement, reducing the interfering noise level and ensuring that announcements remain clearly intelligible. If required, existing music systems can be used for the announcements, eliminating the need to set up a separate announcement sound system.
Can NIKOS be deployed on the festival site at short notice?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted and individually configured by one or two people within just a few minutes on structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
