NIKOS – Jahrmarkt

Visitor information for the Augsburg Plärrer

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Announcements must cut through fairground music and crowds

At the Augsburg Plärrer, dense visitor flows, noisy rides and numerous sound systems operated by the showmen all come together. Service information and safety-related announcements must remain clearly intelligible amid this noise so that visitors can react quickly. During peak attendance, the mobile communications network is also heavily congested, making mobile network-based information channels insufficiently reliable for critical announcements.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. For events such as the Augsburg Plärrer, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in one platform. The technical advantage lies in the centralized transmission and control of information, even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks. NIKOS [audio]² receives announcements via radio on site, outputs them as an analog audio signal and interrupts the showmen’s sound systems for transmission. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls individual announcement locations, specifically selected areas or the entire site; NIKOS [horn]² supplements locations without an existing sound system. By using existing sound systems and expanding the system modularly, additional speaker lines are avoided. Recurring information messages are controlled centrally via the platform. This reduces installation work, material requirements and the costs of technology and personnel.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where can cost savings be achieved for visitor information at the Augsburg Plärrer?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement a range of different functions via a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of potential savings here. The greatest savings potential lies in personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled centrally via the platform. This shortens personnel routes and allows staff to be deployed more effectively elsewhere. At fenced-in events, the workload is reduced further because technical monitoring of emergency exit gates can relieve guards stationed at these points. At the same time, material requirements and the effort involved in providing additional technology are reduced. The risk of tripping over cable ramps is also lowered. This allows rental and installation costs to be offset by savings in personnel and other technology.
Is NIKOS independent of the mobile network at the Augsburg Plärrer?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. Because NIKOS does not rely on cable connections but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of runtime and also supplies connected accessory modules. This means that visitor information at the Augsburg Plärrer remains reliably operational even if the power supply fails or public communications networks are disrupted.
How quickly can NIKOS be installed at the Augsburg Plärrer?+
NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor use without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a range of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
