At the Bremer Freimarkt, large numbers of visitors gather in a confined space between rides and the powerful sound systems of the showmen. In this noisy environment and with dense crowds, it is essential that important information and instructions for visitors are clearly and understandably communicated at all times. The mobile network quickly becomes overloaded in such high-density settings, making mobile-based solutions unreliable for visitor information.

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

For events such as the Bremer Freimarkt, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information announcements, remote control and status monitoring in one platform. Central control via NIKOS [dispatcher]² reduces the number of local operating points and keeps the system architecture clear. On site, NIKOS [audio]² receives speech transmissions by radio and outputs them as an analogue audio signal; NIKOS [horn]² adds acoustic output where there is no existing sound system. Do announcements with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was specially developed for safety-critical announcement and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems (ELA systems), DIN EN 50849 is the decisive framework. Unlike mobile-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements, as it is independent of external networks and is thus reliably usable at any time. Other safety technology standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to the application area and function spectrum of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is an announcement system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully used for critical communication tasks since 2017. How does visitor information remain intelligible while showmen’s sound systems are running?+
NIKOS [audio]² interrupts the showmen’s sound systems for the duration of an announcement. This lowers the background noise level and significantly improves the intelligibility of announcements. Where required, existing sound systems are used for announcements, so no separate loudspeaker system needs to be set up.
How are visitors informed during short-term access stops?+
NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, targeted areas or the entire site. This means entrances, waiting areas or busy routes are addressed exactly where visitor guidance or information is needed. NIKOS [audio]² outputs the speech transmission on site as an analogue audio signal.
How is NIKOS installed at short notice at the Bremer Freimarkt?+
NIKOS was developed specifically for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. The modules are mounted and individually configured by one to two people within a few minutes on different structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees. A standard Schuko mains connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
