NIKOS – Tag der Bundeswehr

Visitor information for the Day of the Bundeswehr

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Targeted communication across expansive grounds

At the Day of the Bundeswehr, visitors are spread across expansive grounds with different programme areas and visitor zones. Important information must reach all areas promptly, even when visitor flows shift at short notice. The noise generated by demonstrations and the high visitor density make it more difficult to communicate information clearly. When visitor numbers are high, the mobile network is also placed under additional strain.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — fully independent of the public network. Across the expansive grounds, information announcements and the control of connected devices are centrally coordinated via NIKOS [dispatcher]². This reduces the need for separate operator stations and additional control technology. Personnel can be deployed at safety-critical points.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and used flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can attach the modules to lampposts, stages, stands or trees within just a few minutes and configure them for the specific application. A Schuko power connection supplies the system for continuous operation. NIKOS communicates via its own autonomous radio network.
Is NIKOS resilient in a crisis?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communication networks. The system therefore remains operational in the event of disruptions or failures affecting public networks. NIKOS requires no cable routes and automatically restores the radio connection after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery providing up to 16 hours of operating time and also supplies power to connected accessory modules. If the mobile network is overloaded, internet access fails or the power supply is interrupted, visitor information for the Day of the Bundeswehr remains operational.
Where does using NIKOS create cost savings?+
NIKOS combines visitor information, employee alerting and system control on a single communication platform. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. Central announcements, remote control and status monitoring replace distributed crowd-control, reporting and operator stations. This either reduces staffing requirements or allows personnel to be deployed at safety-critical points. At fenced events, NIKOS technically monitors emergency exit gates, eliminating the need for security posts at these gates. Savings on personnel and additional technology offset rental and installation costs. At temporary events, costs for planning, setup and operation of the safety technology are also reduced.
