NIKOS – Stadtfest

Visitor information for the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Coordinating access to distributed stages and booths

At the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck, stages, booths and visitor flows are spread across several streets and squares in the city centre. Providing visitor information is therefore challenging: announcements must reach all visitor groups reliably and with area-specific precision—even with simultaneous stages and high noise levels. At the same time, mobile networks are often quickly overloaded when visitor numbers are high, meaning that important information can no longer be distributed through digital channels at short notice.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. For events such as the Old Town Festival in Fürstenfeldbruck, NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, information messages, remote control and additional functions in one platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units as required for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site; NIKOS [audio]² receives voice transmissions wirelessly on site and outputs them as an analogue audio signal; NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output at locations without an existing sound system. Instead of setting up separate announcement and control technology with long cable runs for every street, quickly deployable, radio-based units are used—reducing rental equipment, cabling and setup time.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost savings?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions through a single, unified communication platform. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS can quickly be offset by these savings. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Consistent use of the wide range of functions not only often increases the level of safety and makes employees' work easier, but can even result in savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled from a central location through announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events, such as festivals and corporate events: guarding emergency exit gates can be covered by technically monitoring the gates with NIKOS, meaning that security posts at emergency exits can be eliminated or deployed more effectively elsewhere. Rental and installation costs are therefore offset by savings in personnel and other technology. This significantly reduces the costs of planning, setup and operation of safety technology, particularly for temporary, time-limited events.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and used flexibly?+
NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within just a few minutes on a variety of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
How does NIKOS help ensure compliance with the night-time quiet period at the Old Town Festival?+
The night-time quiet function in NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally switches off all connected sound systems at the touch of a button. This makes it easier to obtain official approval and helps prevent complaints from local residents.
