NIKOS – Landesfest

Visitor management for Hessentag 2027 in Idstein

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Guide visitors safely and efficiently

At Hessentag 2027 in Idstein, managing visitor flows is a particular challenge due to crowding, a noisy environment and constantly changing visitor patterns. Information about routes, access points and codes of conduct must remain clearly understandable even in high noise levels. When capacity is high, communication between those responsible and the individual event areas can also become more difficult.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS brings together announcements, alerting, visitor guidance and device control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This allows visitor flows to be managed according to the situation, while tasks are centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS. The reduced need for separate control devices, cabling and the support of different subsystems lowers installation and operating costs.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant public address and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the relevant reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets the requirements specified therein, as it does not depend on an external network and can therefore be used immediately at any time. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully deployed in numerous mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on NIKOS's wide range of functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS resilient in a crisis?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not depend on cables but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically restored after an interruption. NIKOS therefore responds much more resiliently to disruptions in normal operation than many other systems, demonstrating the communication system's suitability for crisis situations. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time, which also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled out the wrong plug, NIKOS continues to operate. This means that visitor management for Hessentag 2027 remains reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement various functions via a single, unified communication platform. These savings can quickly offset NIKOS's rental and installation costs. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, it often not only increases the level of safety and makes employees' work easier, but also generates savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or control posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. Rental and installation costs are therefore offset by savings in personnel and other technology. This significantly reduces the costs of planning, setup and operation of safety technology, especially at temporary, time-limited events.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor applications without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within just a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
