NIKOS – Volksfest

Visitor safety at Bavaria's folk festivals

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Safety announcements stay clear despite beer-tent noise

At Bavaria's folk festivals, high visitor density, loud sound systems run by showmen, and packed beer tents combine with limited reaction times. In a hazardous situation, safety announcements must reach all visitors clearly despite noise and crowding. In addition, the mobile network quickly becomes overloaded at this visitor density, making mobile-network-based systems unsuitable for visitor safety in an emergency.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. NIKOS [audio]² receives the voice transmission on site via radio and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. The module mutes the showmen's sound systems for the duration of an announcement. This reduces background noise and significantly improves the intelligibility of announcements. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual locations, targeted areas, or the entire site. Additional modules such as NIKOS [flash]² for visual signalling, NIKOS [LED]² for emergency lighting, and NIKOS [relay]² for switching external devices add further control functions and reduce the need for separate control technology and additional operating posts.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS fulfils the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alarm applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. Official approval is granted on a project-specific basis according to the respective safety concept.
Where do cost benefits arise from using NIKOS?+
Cost benefits arise in the planning, setup, and operation of temporary safety technology. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS thereby reduces material requirements, installation effort, and the need for multiple operating and reporting posts. Recurring tasks are centrally controlled and monitored or carried out by NIKOS, so that staff can be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own self-sufficient radio network, independent of public communication networks and their availability. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of runtime and also powers connected accessory modules. This means visitor safety at Bavaria's folk festivals remains reliably operational even if the power supply fails or public communication networks are disrupted.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice on a festival site?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. The modules can be mounted and individually configured by one or two people within a few minutes on various structures such as lampposts, stages, trees, stalls, or decorations. A standard household power socket is sufficient for continuous operation.
