Visitor Safety for EXPO 2027 Belgrade

autonomous reliable cost-effective
Challenge

Inform visitors clearly and safely

At EXPO 2027 Belgrade, ensuring visitor safety presents a particular challenge due to high visitor numbers, crowds and visitors speaking different languages. Warnings and instructions must remain clearly understandable and reach all relevant areas, even in confusing situations. When visitor density is high, mobile networks can quickly become overloaded, meaning that mobile communications may not be reliably available in a crisis.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Announcements, system monitoring, crowd management and device control come together with NIKOS in a single platform independent of the public network. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire site. This allows visitor information and alerts to be triggered centrally, while reducing the need for distributed operator stations and separate control technology.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS meet the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes, NIKOS is standard-compliant: the system meets DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting — usable both in everyday operation and in an emergency. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the decisive reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets these requirements because it operates independently of an external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at any time. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) do not apply to NIKOS, since they concern a different field of use and functional scope. As a public address system for temporary and mobile deployments, NIKOS has already been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on NIKOS’s wide range of functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. As NIKOS does not rely on wired connections but communicates via radio, the connection is automatically restored after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore far more resilient to disruptions in normal operations than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis readiness of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has unplugged the wrong cable, NIKOS continues to function. This ensures that communications for visitor safety at EXPO 2027 Belgrade remain reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes, NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on different structures such as streetlights, stages, trees, stalls or decorations within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power outlet is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
Where does using NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions via a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset NIKOS’s rental and installation costs. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Consistent use of NIKOS’s wide range of functions not only increases the level of safety and makes employees’ work easier, but often also reduces the overall budget. For visitor safety and other safety-related coordination tasks, separate loudspeaker, control and communications solutions are therefore NO LONGER required – NIKOS combines employee alerts, visitor information and system control on a single platform. This reduces material requirements, cabling work and the risk of tripping over cable ramps. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace personnel: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operator stations distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows personnel to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest potential for savings arises at fenced-in events: monitoring emergency exit gates technically with NIKOS can replace security guards stationed at those gates, or allow them to be deployed more effectively elsewhere. This offsets rental and installation costs through savings in personnel and other technology. Particularly for temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, installing and operating the safety technology.
