NIKOS – Kirchentag

Visitor safety for the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Reliably conveying instructions despite crowds

At the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 in Düsseldorf, crowds, a noisy environment and visitors who speak other languages make visitor safety a particular challenge. In a hazardous situation, warnings and instructions must reach all visitors clearly, even when visitor flows shift at short notice. High visitor densities can also overload the mobile network, so communication channels based on mobile networks are not sufficient in a crisis.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

With NIKOS, announcements, system monitoring, visitor information and device control come together on a single platform — completely independent of public networks. NIKOS [dispatcher]² addresses individual announcement locations, defined areas or the entire event site. Visitor information and instructions can thus be triggered centrally, while the need for staff to pass on information manually and coordinate on site decreases.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do NIKOS announcements meet the relevant standard requirements?+
Yes, NIKOS fully meets DIN EN 50849 "Electroacoustic Emergency Warning Systems". The system was specifically designed for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically built for both everyday and emergency use. DIN EN 50849 is the relevant standard for radio-based ELA systems such as NIKOS. Because NIKOS, unlike mobile network-based systems, operates independently of an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times — fully meeting the standard's requirements as a result. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), by contrast, do not apply to NIKOS, as they concern a different field of use and functional scope and are therefore not relevant to NIKOS's deployment. As the only public address system for temporary and mobile applications consistently designed around the demands of mission-critical use, NIKOS has been used successfully for crisis-proof communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS crisis-proof?+
Yes, NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network, completely independent of public communication networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on cable routes but communicates by radio, the connection re-establishes itself automatically after an interruption. NIKOS therefore responds far more resiliently to disruptions of normal operation than many other systems, proving the crisis readiness of this communication system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled the wrong plug, NIKOS keeps working. This keeps visitor safety measures for the 40th German Protestant Kirchentag 2027 reliably operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed flexibly and at short notice?+
Yes, NIKOS was developed specifically for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a variety of structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees within a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS operates via its own digital radio network.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost advantages?+
With NIKOS, different functions can be implemented via a single communication platform, depending on the application. The rental and installation costs of NIKOS can quickly be offset by these savings. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When the wide range of functions is used consistently, the result is not only a higher level of safety and an easier workload for staff, but often even savings in the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. In addition, NIKOS can specifically replace staff: tasks that would otherwise require several stewarding, reporting or operating posts spread across the site are handled from one location by central announcements, remote control and status monitoring – so staff can be saved or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. The greatest savings potential arises at fenced events: guarding emergency exit gates can be covered by technical monitoring of the gates with NIKOS, so guards at emergency exits are no longer needed or can be deployed more effectively elsewhere. In this way, rental and installation costs are offset by savings on staff and other technology. Especially for temporary, time-limited events, the costs of planning, setting up and operating safety technology drop significantly.
