NIKOS – Stadtfest

Visitor safety for the Leipzig City Festival

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Reach stages and visitor areas simultaneously

At the Leipzig City Festival, stages, stands and visitors are spread across several areas of the city centre. In a hazardous situation, announcements must reach different areas simultaneously, even though there is no continuous public-address coverage. The event grounds are open to the public, making access control more difficult and requiring rapid, clear guidance for visitors. Large-scale closures and shuttle services further increase the need for information among visitors unfamiliar with the area.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. For events such as the Leipzig City Festival, NIKOS brings together platform functions for announcements, alerts, information messages, remote control and status monitoring in one place. Central operation via NIKOS [dispatcher]² enables targeted communication with individual announcement locations, selected areas or the entire site. NIKOS [audio]² receives voice transmission wirelessly on site and outputs it as an analogue audio signal. At locations without an existing public-address system, NIKOS [horn]² supplements the acoustic output. NIKOS [LED]² provides emergency lighting, while NIKOS [relay]² enables the integration and switching of external devices. This reduces the need for materials, cabling and staff travel, as recurring tasks can be controlled centrally.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Where does NIKOS deliver cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can be used to implement different functions via a unified communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. Consistent use of its wide range of functions often not only increases the level of safety and makes work easier for employees, but can also reduce the overall budget. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. NIKOS can also be used to replace staff in a targeted manner: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operator posts distributed across the site can be handled from a single location through central announcements, remote control and status monitoring. This allows staff to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. Rental and installation costs are therefore offset by savings in personnel and other technology. Particularly for temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, set-up and operation of the safety technology.
How does NIKOS help ensure compliance with night-time quiet hours?+
The night-time quiet-hours function in NIKOS [dispatcher]² centrally switches off all connected public-address systems at the touch of a button. This facilitates approval by the authorities and helps prevent complaints from local residents.
Can NIKOS be deployed at short notice and flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without permanent infrastructure. The modules can be mounted by one or two people within a few minutes on a range of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, and configured individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation.
