NIKOS – Gedenkveranstaltung

Voice alarm for Sail Amsterdam 2030

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear alarms without a public network

During Sail Amsterdam 2030, voice alarms must reach large numbers of visitors clearly in a crowded and noisy environment. Ambient noise and densely packed visitors make warnings and instructions difficult to understand. The international audience also requires safety messages to be delivered quickly and unambiguously. When visitor numbers are high, the mobile network becomes overloaded, making mobile communication systems unsuitable for crisis situations.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Instead of multiple separate solutions: NIKOS unites visitor information, system monitoring, visitor guidance and control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units selectively for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This reduces the need for cable runs and separate control devices. As a result, the installation effort and costs for temporary equipment are reduced.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Do announcements made with NIKOS comply with the applicable standards?+
Yes. NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 (electroacoustic emergency warning systems). NIKOS was developed specifically for safety-relevant public address and alerting applications and is technically designed for use in both everyday and emergency situations. For electroacoustic emergency warning systems, DIN EN 50849 is the relevant reference framework. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS fully meets the requirements specified therein, as it does not depend on an external network and can therefore be used immediately at any time. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to the field of use and functional scope of NIKOS and are therefore not relevant for approval. NIKOS is a public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been successfully deployed in numerous mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. Approval by the competent authorities is assessed on a project-specific basis.
Does NIKOS remain operational in the event of a power failure or an overloaded mobile network?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is independent of public communication networks. After an interruption, the radio connection is automatically re-established. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also powers connected accessory modules. This means that voice alarms for Sail Amsterdam 2030 remain operational even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be installed at different locations at short notice?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor use without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules within a few minutes on different structures such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power socket is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS also supports the use of an existing digital radio network.
Where does using NIKOS provide cost benefits?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement different functions via a unified communication platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. NIKOS mainly reduces the effort required for separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. Material requirements and cabling work are reduced, and information and emergency announcements can be made from a single location. Tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operating posts distributed across the site can be handled through central announcements and remote control from a single location. This makes it possible to reduce staffing requirements or deploy personnel more effectively at safety-critical points.
