NIKOS – Kirchentag

Voice Alerting for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf

autonomous reliable cost-effective

NIKOS is not a conventional PA system, but a radio-based public address, alarm and control system for large events, construction sites and crisis situations, which you can rent by the day through certified partners and either integrate into your PA or use on its own.

Challenge

Clear warnings for large crowds

At the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 in Düsseldorf, warnings and instructions must reach many visitors clearly across different event areas. Large crowds, ambient noise and constantly changing locations make clear voice alerting more difficult. At the same time, heavily loaded mobile networks cannot be relied on to transmit safety-related information.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

NIKOS combines announcements, alerting, visitor information and control in a single, network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls the announcement units for individual announcement locations, specific areas or the entire event site. This enables voice alerts to be triggered as needed without requiring separate control technology and operator stations for each area. This reduces installation effort as well as the personnel required for operation and coordination.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Does NIKOS adhere to the applicable standards for announcements?+
Yes. The basis is DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems, whose requirements NIKOS fully meets. Developed specifically for safety-relevant announcement and alerting applications, NIKOS is technically designed for everyday use as well as for emergency situations. For ELA systems, DIN EN 50849 forms the relevant framework. Because NIKOS — unlike mobile network-based systems — does not depend on an external network, immediate usability is guaranteed at all times, meaning the standard is fully met. Other safety-related standards such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems) concern a different field of use and functional scope and are not relevant for the approval of NIKOS. Since its market launch in 2017, NIKOS has been the leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications, used successfully at some of the largest open-air events in Europe. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Is NIKOS resilient in a crisis?+
Yes. NIKOS operates via its own autonomous radio network and is completely independent of public communications networks and their availability. This makes the system highly resistant to external influences. Since NIKOS does not rely on wired connections but communicates by radio, the connection is automatically re-established after an interruption. NIKOS is therefore significantly more resilient to disruptions in normal operation than many other systems, demonstrating the crisis resilience of this communications system. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with up to 16 hours of operating time and also powers connected accessory modules. Even if the mobile network is overloaded, the internet provider has been hacked or someone has pulled the wrong plug, NIKOS continues to operate. This ensures that voice alerts for the 40th German Protestant Church Congress 2027 remain reliably functional even in the event of a power failure or disruptions to public communications networks.
Can NIKOS be deployed quickly and flexibly?+
Yes. NIKOS was specifically developed for flexible outdoor deployments without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount the modules on a variety of structures, such as lampposts, stages, stands or trees, within just a few minutes and configure them individually. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS uses an existing digital radio network.
Where does using NIKOS create cost advantages?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS can implement various functions via a single communications platform. These savings can quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find some specific examples of savings here. When its wide range of functions is used consistently, NIKOS not only increases the level of safety and makes employees' work easier, but often even generates savings in the overall budget. This eliminates the need for separate speaker, control and communications solutions for voice alerting and other safety-related coordination tasks, as NIKOS combines employee alerting, visitor information and system control in a single platform. This reduces material requirements, cabling effort and the risk of tripping over cable ramps. NIKOS can also reduce staffing requirements: tasks that would otherwise require several security, reporting or operator stations distributed across the site are controlled centrally and monitored or performed by NIKOS. This allows staff to be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. Rental and installation costs are therefore offset by savings in personnel and other technology. Particularly for temporary, time-limited events, this significantly reduces the costs of planning, setting up and operating the safety technology.
