Visitor guidance for Sail Amsterdam 2030: targeted instructions for crowded quays and routes

autonomous reliable cost-effective
Challenge

Guide visitors safely through crowds

During Sail Amsterdam 2030, visitor guidance is challenging because large crowds gather along quays, access routes and viewing areas. When congestion builds up unexpectedly, visitors need clear instructions to relieve pressure on routes and leave areas in an orderly way. High visitor density can overload mobile networks, while many international guests depend on direct, easy-to-understand information.

Solution

One unified solution for everyday use and emergencies

Instead of multiple separate solutions: NIKOS unites visitor information, system monitoring, visitor guidance and control in a single network-independent platform. NIKOS [dispatcher]² controls announcement units for individual announcement locations, selected zones or the entire event site. This allows visitor-flow instructions to be issued from one control point. The need for dispersed guidance posts and the installation effort are reduced.

FAQ

Information for planners and organisers

Is NIKOS designed to meet the relevant standards for announcements?+
Yes, indeed: NIKOS meets the requirements of DIN EN 50849 for electroacoustic emergency warning systems. The system was developed specifically for safety-relevant announcements and alerting and is technically designed for both everyday operation and emergency situations. DIN EN 50849 represents the relevant reference framework for ELA systems. Unlike mobile network-based systems, NIKOS does not depend on any external network and is therefore immediately ready for use at all times — fully meeting the standard as a result. Other standards known from safety technology, such as DIN EN 54, DIN VDE 0833-4 and DIN 14675 (voice alarm systems), do not apply to NIKOS, as they are not applicable to radio-based public address systems like NIKOS. NIKOS is regarded as the market-leading public address system for temporary and mobile applications and has been used successfully many times for mission-critical communication tasks since 2017. RADACOM and your regional NIKOS partner will be happy to advise you on the wide range of NIKOS functions and support you in implementing the requirements cost-effectively.
Does NIKOS remain operational during a power failure or overloaded mobile networks?+
Yes. NIKOS operates through its own autonomous radio network and independently of public communication networks. The connection restores itself automatically after an interruption. NIKOS [audio]² has an internal battery with a runtime of up to 16 hours and also supplies connected accessories. This keeps visitor guidance for Sail Amsterdam 2030 operational during power failures or disruptions to public communication networks.
Can NIKOS be installed flexibly for Sail Amsterdam 2030?+
Yes. NIKOS was developed for flexible outdoor deployment without fixed infrastructure. One or two people can mount and configure the modules individually on a wide range of structures within minutes. A standard Schuko power connection is sufficient for continuous operation. NIKOS supports the use of an existing digital radio network.
Where do cost benefits arise when using NIKOS for visitor guidance?+
Depending on the application, NIKOS implements different functions through one communication platform. Savings quickly offset the rental and installation costs of NIKOS. You can find several specific saving examples here. Visitor guidance and other safety-relevant coordination tasks do not require separate loudspeaker, control and communication solutions. This reduces material requirements, cabling work and trip hazards caused by cable ramps. Tasks that would otherwise require several distributed guidance, reporting or operating posts can be handled from one location through announcements, remote control and status monitoring. Personnel can therefore be reduced or deployed more effectively at safety-critical points. For temporary events, this also lowers the costs of planning, installation and operating safety technology.
